Exercises - Jenni 2 - Characterization by Values/Habits

Every night before dinner, Mama comes home and turns off the tv. Grandma and Mama and me sit down and say grace and eat dinner. After dinner, Grandma asks me about school while Mama does the dishes. I don't like to watch her do dishes 'cause her face gets all wrinkled the way it does when I forget to brush my teeth or wipe my feet. After the dishes are done, Mama puts on some of that slow music she likes, and we sit down at the table together to do our homework. Her big books make a much bigger stack than my Phonics workbook and math worksheets, but she smiles while she's reading them. Sometimes we sing songs together while we work. When I finish, she pushes away her own books and checks over mine. If I get everything right myself, I get a big hug. I try hard to get everything right, so Mama's face won't get wrinkled. Then Grandma gets up from her rocking chair to put me to bed, and Mama puts on her uniform and picks up one of her books to take to the diner. She kisses me goodnight before she goes. I go to sleep dreaming of dinner tomorrow, when I get to see Mama again.
