Clarion West '97

Monkeys

Hey, guys! Guys! You're not looking very angstful. C'mon...you're going to ruin my credibility. I was just telling these nice folks that writers are full of angst and misery, upholding the Clarion legend that all we do is suffer, suffer and suffer some more in those six weeks, and you're going to blow it for me!

Hmm...maybe I can rescue the situation. Okay, how's this:

What Rob, Clay and Bob (respectively, left to right) are really doing here is not being total goofballs, however much it may look like it. No, they are in fact doing a serious critical analysis of an ancient myth, the myth of the three monkeys (see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil), which, of course, you, as serious scholars, are intimately familiar with. Yes, if we had time, I'd be happy to give you some notes on their clever post-modern, post-structuralist, deconstrunction of this apparently straightforward but in fact deeply misogynistic and jam-packed with themes myth, but we really ought to get on to the next photo, so just move along, please -- we don't really have time to dwell on this...
